Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator A to operate construction and maintenance equipment and perform field tasks in support of road and bridge repair. You will gain valuable technical and safety skills through daily teamwork and real responsibilities.

Hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework is not available; overtime may be required during weather events.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee program or CDL training or equivalent.
• Active Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL with Air Brake Restriction removed.
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
• Drug and Alcohol testing as required by Federal Regulations.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment.
• Maintain a valid CDL and complete pre and post operation checks.
• Traffic control and flagging duties to safely direct traffic during work activities.
• Manual labor using hand and power tools for roadway and bridge maintenance tasks.
• Make adjustments, perform minor repairs, and clean equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Follow safety practices and report hazards; stay aware of work zone risks.
