Job summary

San Antonio Water System is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform a variety of labor duties, operating light to heavy equipment for the repair, construction, and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater systems. This role includes an automatic progression to Senior Equipment Operator after 5 years of continuous service.

Two service centers in San Antonio (Eastside and Westside) support daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six months’ experience operating equipment in construction, water, wastewater or similar.
• Pass position-specific physical testing.
• Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License.
• Ability to report to work on time and follow schedules.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains medium to heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, excavators, trenchers and related machinery.
• Excavates and backfills trenches to complete repairs.
• Transports equipment, tools and materials to and from job sites.
• Loads and unloads materials from trucks.
• Ensures safety procedures and maintains facilities and equipment.
• Interprets drawings, schematics, and construction plans.
