Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a truck driver trainee to operate tractor-trailer combinations and pickups between service centers and turn-points. The role includes non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work, with overnight stays possible.

Responsibilities include passing safety inspections, log maintenance, and following Dispatch instructions. Hazmat regulations compliance and customer service are essential, with occasional duties as city driver or freight handler as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring generous lift effort several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and train.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies.
• Maintain accurate daily logs and complete required documentation.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions for delays or equipment issues.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Perform freight handling tasks when needed with motorized and manual equipment.
