Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Miles City to perform laborer, lead worker, and equipment operator duties for highway maintenance. The role includes operating trucks and heavy equipment for culvert work, paving, guardrail installation, and snow/ice control.

The position has career ladder opportunities. Eligibility requires a valid Montana CDL Class A Type II with tank endorsement and MEC; learners must obtain CDL within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and MEC.
• Learner's permit holders must obtain CDL within 30 days.
• Experience: Level I requires 1 year of heavy truck or equipment operation; Level II requires 1 year at another agency; Level III requires 3+ years at another agency.

Responsibilities

• Operates various trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance tasks.
• Performs culvert placement, road repairs, crack/mastic sealing, guardrail or sign installation and snow/ice control.
• Maintains roadsides, vegetation, and pavement markings; performs luminaire maintenance.
