Job summary

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting a Maintenance Technician in the Miles City Section. This role combines laboring, leading, operating heavy equipment, and driving trucks to support highway maintenance tasks including culverts, vegetation control, snow removal, and pavement marking.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with tank endorsement and MEC.
• Learner’s permit holders have 30 days to obtain the necessary Montana Commercial Operators License.

Responsibilities

• Performs highway maintenance tasks as laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver.
• Operates various trucks and heavy equipment for culvert work, landslide removal, crack sealing, fence/bridge work, guardrail or sign installation, luminaire maintenance, and road repairs.
• Engages in vegetation and roadside maintenance, pavement marking and striping, and snow and ice control.
