Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a CDL-driven driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks, with non-driving duties on the dock. Expect safety inspections, freight handling with forklifts and pallet jacks, and thorough documentation.

Day/night driving, hazmat compliance, and strong customer service are essential. Applicants should hold a Class A license, have a clean MVR, and be able to lift up to 100 pounds. ADA accommodations available upon request.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers requiring ~100 lb lift several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 lbs several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where necessary, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
