Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in Buford, GA seeks a driver trainee to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles, and perform non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

You will complete pre-trip/post-trip inspections, hook/unhook trailers, secure freight, and communicate with dispatch on delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. Emphasis on DOT compliance, safety, and customer service as you develop driving skills.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
