Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is seeking a CDL Driver Apprentice to obtain a Commercial Driver's License while training with a Driver Trainer. You will complete required CDL instruction and learn to operate a commercial vehicle while delivering service to customers in our line of business.

Casella will cover all training costs and provide onboarding at our Home Office in Rutland, VT, offering a clear Career Pathways with advancement opportunities, merit increases, and safety incentives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 18 years or older.
• State-issued CDL Class B with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to lift objects over 50 lbs; works in varied weather.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; customer service oriented.
• Team player able to work in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre/post trip inspections and ensures safety equipment is functional.
• Operates various waste collection vehicles safely on streets, sites, and construction zones.
• Provides courteous, timely service and maintains positive attitude with customers and communities.
• Completes route documentation and mandated paperwork accurately.
• Executes route sheets for one Line of Business, handles receptacles and site cleanup.
• Attends scheduled training programs and meetings as required.
• Notifies dispatch of service interruptions, incidents, or safety concerns.
• Stays observant of surroundings and demonstrates problem solving while on route.
• Assists driver with backing maneuvers and participates in driver training opportunities.
