Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is offering a CDL Driver Apprentice program with hands-on training at our Rutland, VT home office.

You will pursue a Class B CDL, complete federally required instruction, and train under a Casella Driver Trainer to service customers in your line of business. Casella covers training costs, provides onboarding, and offers a starting pay range of $23.00–$25.00 per hour, plus Pathways advancement, merit increases, and safety bonus incentives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; 18+; CDL Class B permit with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Physically able to handle objects over 50 lbs and work in varying weather.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre/post trip inspections and ensure safety equipment is operational.
• Drive and service customers with courteous, timely handling of waste and routes.
• Follow route assignments and complete end-of-day paperwork accurately.
• Maintain truck appearance and report any safety concerns.
• Attend training sessions and participate in ongoing development programs.
• Assist with backing maneuvers and cooperate with the driver trainer.
