Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is hiring a CDL Driver Apprentice to earn a CDL while training on the job at our Rutland, VT home office. The program covers training costs and onboarding experiences as you complete required CDL instruction and pass exams.

Starting at $24–$26 per hour, you must be 21+, and you will advance through our Career Pathways program with merit increases and safety incentives as you progress from Apprentice to Driver roles.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18+ and have a state CDL Driver’s Class B permit with air brake endorsement or able to obtain one within 6 months.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States and able to lift 50 lbs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and problem‑solving skills; team player.
• Pre-employment drug screen is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre/post trip inspections of the assigned vehicle per safety standards and regulations.
• Operates various truck types and maintains safe operation on streets, sites, and construction zones.
• Provides courteous customer service and timely service; represents Casella values.
• Completes route paperwork accurately and ends-of-day documentation.
• Attends training and meetings; assists with backing maneuvers and learning opportunities.
