Job summary

FedEx Freight in Seattle seeks a skilled CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform dock duties. The role includes pre/post trip inspections, freight handling, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.

The position requires a CDL-A or CLP, clean MVR, and ability to lift heavy freight. You will work with dispatch and customers, supporting logistics operations with reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A or CLP required before entering the job classification.
• Must have acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring ~100 lb lift.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 lbs multiple times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations (doubles and/or straight trucks).
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain docs.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding per DOT.
• Follow Dispatch instructions for delays, arrivals, equipment issues.
• Provide internal/external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Seek additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Perform road driver/freight handler duties when needed.
• Chain vehicle tires as required.
• Follow laws & company policies; perform other duties.
