Job summary

160 Driving Academy is seeking a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach students from pre-trip inspections through passing the CDL exam. You’ll work in designated yards with a team of instructors and occasionally cover other regional yards.

You will help keep yards clean and organized, and you may stay in hotels during coverage needs. This is a local, hands-on role for experienced drivers who want to stay close to home and be paid for outcomes.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with 24 months of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.
• Ability to document progress and maintain records.
• Must meet DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening requirements.
• Background check clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills in outdoor yards (automatic and manual).
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on-road driving.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing on first attempt.
• Track attendance and progress; provide support as needed.
• Maintain training records and documentation; report incidents to lead.
• Collaborate with Lead Instructor to ensure consistent student experience.
• Cover for other instructors at nearby yards when needed.
• Complete 90-day probationary period to ensure safety and curriculum adherence.
