Job summary

City of Temple, TX is seeking a Solid Waste Driver to operate a collection truck on a designated route, perform routine maintenance, report issues, and follow safety and traffic regulations.

The role requires a high school diploma and a Class B CDL, with preferred six months of waste collection experience. You will use route software, assist other routes, and maintain safe, clean vehicles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months experience in waste collections or related field.
• Class B CDL license required.

Responsibilities

• Operates a solid waste collection vehicle following an established route utilizing route management software.
• Enters and exits vehicle throughout route to push/pull containers, operate hydraulic mechanisms used in collection of debris and pick up small items as needed.
• Deposits solid waste items at designated location (landfill, Brazos River Authority, etc.).
• Operates tablet software designed for assigned route.
• Assists neighboring route(s) when needed.
• Communicates with other drivers, office staff and supervisor to report problems in the field.
• Completes daily vehicle maintenance checklist on routing software tablet and documents faulty/inoperable items.
• Tops-off fuel tank(s) daily; washes, cleans and maintains interior/exterior of collection vehicle, to include packer bodies, collection mechanisms, storage areas, etc.
• Performs minor maintenance on trucks to include greasing of systems, light bulbs, mud flaps, etc.
• Ensures all safety equipment is operational (flashing caution lights, camera, etc.).
• Adheres to defensive driving rules, obeys traffic laws and follow city policies and safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties /assumes responsibility for other routes and trucks as assigned
