Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a CDL-A Track Equipment Operator to support railroad construction, maintenance, and emergency recovery in Richmond, VA. This hands-on field role blends heavy equipment operation, material transport, and physical labor.

Driving is a smaller part of the job; you’ll work on-site most days, with regional travel, long hours, and 24/7 emergency callouts. Starting pay is competitive with full benefits and overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• CDL-A with a clean driving record.
• Experience in construction labor or a physically demanding role.
• Ability to perform heavy physical work and operate equipment safely.
• Willingness to travel regionally and respond to emergencies 24/7.
• Completion of required safety trainings.

Responsibilities

• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment per DOT regulations.
• Transport equipment and materials to/from job sites; verify loads and permits for oversized/overweight loads.
• Attend daily work-planning discussions and safety briefings.
• Load, unload, stage, secure, and move materials and equipment for track construction, repairs, and maintenance.
• Assist with crane assembly, inspection, operation, disassembly, and loading as needed.
• Operate heavy equipment such as cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and rail-bound equipment when qualified.
• Assist with rigging using chains, cables, and winches.
• Perform grading, lifting, equipment transfers, and other track maintenance tasks.
• Use hydraulic tools, welding equipment, cutting torches, and hand tools as needed.
• Monitor equipment to maintain safe operation and minimize downtime.
• Perform and document minor equipment maintenance; report complex issues to supervisor.
• Restock vehicles with parts, organize materials, and sort scrap.
• Clean job sites and keep equipment and work areas organized.
• Follow safety policies and assist other departments as needed.
• Complete safety training and preventive maintenance during downtime.
