Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a CDL-A Heavy Equipment Operator – Railroad Recovery in Richmond, VA. This full-time role combines CDL-A driving with heavy equipment operation and hands-on fieldwork in railroad derailment recovery and track projects.

Most time is on-site with emergency callouts 24/7, including weekends and holidays; overtime is common. Benefits include per diem, hotel pay for travel, and layover pay when applicable.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• Experience in construction labor or physically demanding roles.
• Ability to operate construction equipment and perform hands‑on fieldwork.
• Willingness to complete required safety and equipment training.
• Availability for 24/7 emergency callouts including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
• Transport equipment and materials to job sites and verify permits for oversized loads.
• Participate in job briefings and daily safety meetings before field work.
• Load, unload, stage, and secure materials for railroad recovery and track work.
• Assist with crane assembly, operation, and disassembly as qualified.
• Operate heavy equipment (cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, rail‑bound gear).
• Assist with rerailing operations, maintenance, and track construction tasks.
• Use rigging, welding, and hydraulic tools as needed; monitor for safe operation.
• Complete minor servicing and document maintenance; report complex issues.
