Job summary

Qualdoc in Taneytown, MD is seeking a CDL-A Railroad Field Operator – Track & Rerail to join our field operations team. This hands-on role combines class A driving with heavy equipment operation, track maintenance, and railcar repair.

Driving accounts for about 10% of work; the rest involves equipment handling, material movement, and field tasks. The ideal candidate will perform inspections, operate cranes and other machinery, rig loads, and participate in safety briefings.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL-A with clean driving record.
• Experience in construction labor or similar physically demanding job.
• Willingness to travel regionally and out of state.
• Availability for 24/7 emergency callouts.
• Ability to operate or learn heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle and equipment inspections per DOT and company policies.
• Transport equipment and materials to job sites and verify permits for oversize/overweight loads.
• Participate in daily work planning and safety briefings.
• Load, unload, move, and stage equipment for rerailing, load transfers, and track work.
• Operate heavy equipment (cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, etc.).
• Assist with crane assembly, rigging, and securing loads.
• Use hydraulic tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches as required.
• Support railcar maintenance, track construction, and equipment setup.
• Monitor equipment condition and report major issues to supervisor.
• Disassemble and clean up after assignments and restock tools.
• Complete required safety training and preventive maintenance tasks.
