Job summary

FedEx Freight in Rockford, IL is hiring a Tractor-Tractor Driver to operate a tractor-trailer, including doubles and straight trucks. You will perform pre-trip inspections and handle freight with motorized and manual equipment.

Responsibilities include securing loads, completing required reports, coordinating with dispatch, and delivering excellent customer service while complying with DOT regulations. Hourly pay ranges from $25.64 to $30.55 with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring lift force.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
