Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a CDL-A Crane & Heavy Equipment Operator in Richmond, VA. The role blends driving with skilled operation of cranes, excavators, and other heavy machinery to support specialized lifting and field assignments.

The position emphasizes safety, thorough equipment inspections, and timely project completion. Expect 60+ hour weeks, on-call nights, weekends, and holidays with 1.5x overtime and per diem where applicable.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL-A with a clean driving record.
• Experience in construction or physical labor.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment and perform hands-on fieldwork.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for minor repairs.
• Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and crew.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes, excavators, and other heavy machinery for lifting and handling.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment per DOT.
• Drive tractor-trailers to transport machinery to job sites.
• Inspect loads and verify permits for oversized/overweight equipment.
• Assist with loading, unloading, positioning, and securing equipment and materials.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and coordinate work plans with supervisors.
• Assist with crane assembly, inspections, and safe operation.
