Job summary

FedEx Freight in Illinois is seeking a CDL-A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. You will inspect, hook, secure loads, and handle freight with equipment while providing excellent service and pursuing additional business opportunities.

The role requires a valid CDL-A with hazmat/tank endorsements, DOT knowledge, and the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. It offers competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements required.
• One year driving experience within the last three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• MVR must meet hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT FMC regulations 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer (doubles/triples where applicable).
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and dollies.
• Handle freight with pallet jacks, forklifts, and hand trucks.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous materials regulations.
• Collect payments for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and report delays or issues.
• Communicate with customers to arrange pickup/delivery and solicit extra business.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Proactively seek additional business and refer leads to sales.
• May perform tire chaining and other duties as needed.
• May perform road/dock duties if required.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
