Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a professional CDL-A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers in Des Moines, IA. The role supports the selling process and requires safe operation of heavy trucks.

You will conduct pre-trip inspections, secure cargo, complete documentation, and communicate with dispatch to ensure on-time deliveries. Physical stamina is essential, with the ability to lift up to 100 pounds as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple and hazmat/tank endorsements.
• One year experience within the last three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable MVR and meet DOT regulatory requirements.
• LCV qualifications apply in specified states (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT).
• Ability to count and perform basic math; good verbal/written communication; lift up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/triples where applicable.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect payments for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or issues.
• Communicate with customers to coordinate pick-up/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• May perform chaining of tires; may perform road driver or dock duties as needed.
• Comply with all laws and company policies.
