Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc is hiring for a driver role in California. The position involves picking up and delivering freight between service centers, operating tractor-trailer combinations, and supporting the sales process.

Essential tasks include pre-trip inspections, securing freight, communicating with dispatch, and potentially performing road or dock duties as needed. Hazmat endorsement and a valid CDL-A are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements.
• One year experience within last three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT 391 requirements.
• Long combination vehicles (LCV) qualifications for listed states.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Able to sit, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently or as a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles (and triples where applicable).
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with forklift, pallet jack, hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and DOT procedures.
• Communicate with dispatch and customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Solicit additional business and provide leads to sales.
• May perform chaining of tires and other duties as required.
