Job summary

Optum is seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Manager in Phoenix, AZ. This leadership role provides operational oversight of CDI programs, guiding team performance and ensuring documentation integrity to support compliant clinical documentation.

The role focuses on strategy, education for providers, KPI monitoring, and collaboration with HIM, Care Coordination, Quality Management, and physicians.

Qualifications

• Current RN license or Foreign Medical Graduate designation
• 3+ years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience
• 1+ years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience within a CDI program; CCDS, CDIP, or CCS certification
• Experience conducting CDI reviews in an acute care hospital setting
• Experience collaborating with physicians on CDI opportunities
• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and healthcare software
• Willing to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations, workflow, and staffing of CDI specialists to ensure service levels are met
• Oversee onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and annual evaluations
• Review CDI quality metrics, chart audits, KPI audits, and develop action plans
• Partner with the CDI Director to support client meetings, reporting, and initiatives
• Ensure inpatient records are reviewed within established timeframes
• Oversee provider clarification and query processes for complete documentation
• Monitor documentation quality trends and drive improvement strategies
• Coordinate with HIM Coding, Care Coordination, Quality Management, and Physician Advisors
• Facilitate physician education sessions and documentation improvement presentations
• Monitor retrospective query activity and identify process improvements
• Approve timecards and manage staffing during high-volume periods
• Lead departmental projects and other initiatives
