Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a CDI Manager to provide operational leadership for concurrent clinical documentation review programs managing CDI teams and ensuring documentation integrity. You will drive education, monitor KPIs, and lead improvement initiatives across healthcare functions to support accurate documentation.

The role emphasizes leadership, cross-functional collaboration with physicians, and ensuring timely inpatient record review while partnering with CDI leadership on client

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or Foreign Medical Graduate designation.
• 3+ years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience.
• 1+ years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience within a CDI program; CCDS/CDIP/CCS certification.
• Experience conducting CDI reviews in an acute care hospital setting.
• Experience collaborating with physicians on CDI opportunities.
• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and healthcare software.
• Willing to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations, workflow, and staffing of CDI specialists to ensure service levels are met.
• Oversee onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and evaluations of CDI staff.
• Review CDI quality metrics, chart audits, KPI audits, and operational reports; develop action plans.
• Partner with the CDI Director for client meetings, reporting, and initiatives.
• Ensure inpatient records are reviewed within department timeframes.
• Oversee provider clarification and query processes for complete documentation.
• Monitor documentation quality trends and implement improvement strategies.
• Coordinate with HIM Coding and other teams to support documentation integrity.
• Facilitate physician education sessions and presentations.
• Monitor retrospective query activity and identify process improvements.
• Approve timecards and manage staffing during high-volume periods.
• Lead departmental projects and other initiatives.
