Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System is seeking a CDI Education Lead to advance clinical documentation improvement initiatives. You will design and deliver education for providers, APPs, and staff, while mentoring the CDI Specialists and developing onboarding programs.

The role emphasizes audit-driven quality, regulatory compliance, and collaboration across revenue cycle teams. Strong communication and leadership capabilities are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Educational background in HIT, nursing, or related field.
• RHIT/RHIA or RN/LPN licensure required.
• CDIP or CCDS certification within 1 year of hire.
• Experience in inpatient acute care coding or clinical documentation.
• Knowledge of CMS, CMS guidelines and auditing techniques.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and implement CDI education programs for providers and staff.
• Provide ongoing education to CDI Specialists on guidelines, regulations, and chart review functions.
• Mentor CDI Specialists and develop apprenticeship/orientation programs.
• Analyze data to identify areas for education improvement.
• Serve as expert CDI resource to teams and meetings.
• Promote compliance with coding, CMS, and payer regulations.
• Conduct quarterly quality assurance audits of CDI workflow.
• Act as Super user for CDI-related EHR systems and update policies.
• Communicate with CDI staff and leadership across departments.
• Improve documentation templates to support clinical protocols.
