Job summary

University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking an Executive Sous Chef (Catering) to lead the production area of UMass Catering in Amherst. This full-time, onsite role reports to the Director of UMass Catering and includes food preparation, recipe and menu development, staff scheduling and culinary initiatives.

You will develop budgets with the Director, supervise 5–8 kitchen staff, ensure HACCP compliance, monitor food costs and quality, and partner with the management team on catering services

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent culinary education required.
• Sanitation certificate required.
• Experience in high-volume catering operations.
• Experience in budget development and cost control is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee hands-on production and supervise 5-8 staff.
• Develop and test menus and recipes for events.
• Schedule staffing and manage training and development.
• Assist in developing operating budgets and monitor costs.
• Ensure HACCP compliance and maintain sanitary conditions.
• Coordinate with catering events for campus functions.
