Job summary

University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Director of Bakeshop & Executive Pastry Chef to lead the UMass Amherst Bakeshop, Retail Bakery Yum, Catering Bakery Operations, and Specialty Cakes Program while aligning with Dining Services goals including sustainability and educational objectives.

You will recruit and mentor a team, set recipe standards, oversee safety and maintenance, and collaborate with campus partners to expand offerings and revenue growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with five years of pastry/bakery management experience.
• ACF Certification and ServSafe Sanitation Certification required.
• Experience with high-volume pastry production and staff supervision.
• Strong communication, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Hires, develops, trains, and mentors pastry staff to produce high-quality baked items with excellent service.
• Develops recipe standards for all bakery units and staff.
• Oversees Specialty Cakes Program and collaborates with Catering to grow wedding services.
• Represents the Bake Shop at events and leads culinary workshops for student and staff education.
• Ensures food safety programs and compliance with regulations; manages inventory and equipment maintenance.
