Job summary

The City of Lynchburg is seeking a Cataloging Librarian to join the Technical Services Department. The ideal candidate is analytical, technologically proficient, and adaptable, with strong cataloging skills and experience across print, audiovisual, electronic, and digital resources.

Responsibilities include original and copy cataloging, improving procedures, and ensuring discoverability of materials. The role requires collaboration across departments and engagement with TLC and ILS developments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• 3–5 years of experience with a variety of digital library systems preferred; TLC database experience is a plus.
• General knowledge of cataloging, automated systems, and digital resources.

Responsibilities

• Performs original and copy cataloging for library materials in all formats.
• Evaluates and implements improvements to cataloging procedures and workflows as technologies evolve.
• Collaborates with Technical Services and other staff to ensure timely processing and discoverability of materials.
• Assists with physical processing, maintenance, and repair of library materials as needed.
• Analyzes system reports and resolves discrepancies related to bibliographic records and operations.
• Compiles and reports statistical data using library systems and reporting tools.
• Manages interlibrary loan (ILL) borrowing and lending using TLC WorldShare.
• Represents the library in the TLC Users Group and communicates system updates to leadership.
• Participates in planning and library-wide projects; engages in outreach as needed.
• Stays current with cataloging standards, metadata practices, and emerging tech trends.
