About the Department:

The Division for Enrollment Management, as part of the Office of the Provost at George Mason University, supports student recruitment, retention, and success. We develop and implement strategic enrollment management plans, create and facilitate processes, and inform policies that guide students through their academic journey from recruitment to post-matriculation. About the Position:

The Catalog and Curriculum Specialist is responsible for course and program inventory maintenance and participation in the annual publication process of the University Catalog. The position is expected to leverage extensive breadth and depth of knowledge of George Mason University curricular policies and procedures to manage the curriculum approval process and provide outstanding customer service to our university partners.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitors the curriculum approval process in CourseLeaf and processes course and program inventory requests;
  • Runs regular curriculum-related data quality reports and independently conducts data clean-up efforts as needed;
  • Assists with academic coding in Banner as assigned by the supervisor;
  • Communicates potential issues related to the course and program proposals to academic units and the Assistant Registrar as needed;
  • Engages in cross-functional collaboration with the Degree Audit team to provide support with the curricular update process;
  • Performs these curriculum responsibilities in a timely manner, communicates with constituents clearly and professionally, and operates independently;
  • Participates in the annual catalog review and publication process by adhering to established deadlines for page review and assisting the Assistant Registrar with publication and post-publication steps as assigned;
  • Leverages knowledge of complex policies, requirements, page structure, and standard formatting for the publication to assist partners with questions and concerns regarding the publication timeline, process, and/or specific edits;
  • Develops and maintains curriculum training materials and process documentation, including, but not limited to, document-based manuals, presentations, training videos, and web page content;
  • Conducts end user training on submitting proposals, formatting standards, and reporting resources;
  • Provides ongoing support to end users;
  • Conducts testing for CourseLeaf updates and software patches; and
  • Maintains test plans and completes testing with appropriate documentation.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience providing customer service;
  • Experience handling multiple priorities in a busy workplace;
  • Experience with various electronic applications;
  • Experience with the application of rules and regulations;
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, communication, organization, analytical, and editing/proofreading skills;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking to solve complex problems;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies, identify and resolve discrepancies, manage competing deadlines, and analyze reports; and
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy and sound judgement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in related field;
  • Registrar's office experience;
  • Experience as a copy editor;
  • Experience with a curriculum management system and academic catalog production tool, particularly CourseLeaf CIM and CAT;
  • Experience with Banner or comparable student information system;
  • Microsoft Office proficiency; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, catalog, degree audit or comparable higher education processes.
