Job summary

Portland Community College is seeking a part-time Legal Assistant Paralegal Trainee (16-24 hours/week) to support the College Access Programs Department. The role involves assisting SOAR attorneys and DOJ-accredited representatives at PCC locations, conducting client intake, and coordinating clinic activities.

The position emphasizes collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on accessibility and reducing barriers to education.

Qualifications

• Understanding or lived experience of immigrant populations.
• Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and affirm diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to multi-task efficiently.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to develop and maintain confidentiality of records and effective working relationships; maintain attendance.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Preferred current or past PCC Paralegal Student.
• Preferred: bilingual Spanish/English.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to SOAR attorneys and DOJ-accredited representatives.
• Provide administrative support during SOAR’s Legal Clinics at Portland Community College locations, including greeting clients and intake.
• Schedule client appointments and contact clients for reminders.
• Engage in case management duties, including maintaining client files and drafting forms under supervision.
• Handle communications across phone, email, and online chat; work independently.
• Assist with community presentations on immigration topics with SOAR attorneys.
