Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Casual Medical Laboratory Technician for the Northeast Clinic Laboratories across several M Health Fairview clinics, including Blaine, Stillwater, Vadnais Heights, and Hugo. Shifts start as early as 6:30am and end by 8:30pm, with 5 shifts every 3 months and no weekend schedule.

You will perform waived to high complexity testing, follow SOPs, verify patient identity, and report results under supervision, contributing to ambulatory lab operations.

Qualifications

• Associate or higher degree requirements per CLIA’ 88 for moderate complexity testing.
• Multiple degree pathways or transcripts may satisfy the qualification.
• Military lab training plus degree or credits accepted.
• HHS certification eligibility required; ASCP/AMT/AAB MLT within 1 year.
• BLS within 90 days required.

Responsibilities

• Follows guidelines to obtain specimens and perform waived, moderate, or high complexity testing and report results.
• Collects and processes biological specimens per SOP.
• Verifies patient identity and specimen integrity.
• Assesses specimen quality and prioritizes testing.
• Performs a range of testing areas per CLIA’88 SOP.
• Operates instruments and information systems per procedures.
• Maintains reagents, test kits and calibrators; documents checks.
• Communicates abnormal and critical results to care providers.
• Participates in QA, PI and compliance programs.
• Mentors new staff and students; completes training and evaluations.

Education

Associate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes to qualify as moderate complexity testing personnel as specified in CLIA’ 88.

Associate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided.

Associate or higher degree or 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university with 6 semester hours in biology and 6 semester hours in chemistry; Transcript must be provided.

Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course and an associate or higher degree or 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university with 6 semester hours in biology and 6 semester hours in chemistry. Transcript must be provided.

Applicant should possess or be eligible to receive appropriate Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification. ASCP, ASCPi, AMT, or AAB – MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician) within 1 Year

Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) within 90 Days
