Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Casual Medical Laboratory Technician for the Northeast Clinic Laboratories (0.01 FTE). Primary sites include North Branch, Wyoming, Hugo, and Chisago City, with opportunities at Blaine, Stillwater, and Vadnais Heights. Shifts are 8 hours, starting as early as 6:30am and ending by 8:30pm; no weekend shifts.

Casual position requires 5 shifts/3 months. Travel between clinics is compensated with mileage reimbursement and a $3/hour float pay when traveling to

Qualifications

• Associate or higher degree in a related laboratory field with practicum or equivalent.
• Degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology.
• Diploma with field of study or transcript must be provided.
• 60 semester hours with biology and chemistry; transcript must be provided.
• 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training plus degree/credits; transcript required.
• Applicant should possess or be eligible for DHHS-approved laboratory certification.
• ASCP, ASCPi, AMT or AAB - MLT within 1 year.
• Basic Life Support within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Follows guidelines to obtain specimens and perform waived to high complexity testing and report results.
• Collects and processes biological specimens following SOP.
• Verifies patient identity and specimen integrity.
• Verifies correct identification of specimens before testing.
• Determines priority of specimen testing and procurement.
• Performs testing across hematology, coagulation, microbiology, serology, immunology, chemistry, urinalysis, phlebotomy and EKG.
• Operates instrumentation and information systems per procedure.
• Maintains supplies and documents QC checks and deviations.
• Communicates abnormal results to caregiver and seeks supervisor if unresolved.
• Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement and compliance programs.

Education

Associate or higher degree in a related laboratory field (including practicum)

Degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology

Diploma with field of study OR transcript

60 semester hours with biology and chemistry

50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course + degree/credits

HHS-approved laboratory certification eligibility

ASCP/ASCPi/AMT/AAB - MLT within 1 year

Basic Life Support within 90 days
