Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a part-time Pharmacy Clerk to support daily cash handling and customer service duties. You will greet customers, process transactions, and help ensure prescription readiness while protecting patient privacy.

The role involves basic data entry, phone triage, and routine pharmacy duties in a fast-paced setting. The position emphasizes accurate cash handling, teamwork with pharmacy staff, and adherence to HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or the equivalent plus one year experience, preferably in the receipt and disbursement of funds.
• Preferred: High school diploma.
• 1 year customer service experience, with receipt and disbursement of funds. Must be able to balance a cash drawer.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer basic questions, check the computer system for prescription readiness/status and direct medical and insurance inquiries.
• Operate the point-of-sale cash register, handle cash and credit card payments, and issue accurate change and receipts.
• Locate and pull filled prescription bags and verify basic patient identifying information such as name and date of birth.
• Answer phone calls and triage non-professional inquiries and enter basic patient demographic data while protecting patient privacy under HIPAA guidelines.

Position Description

Performs routine repetitive clerical work involving receipt andcustody of cash and/or checks and frequently involves the operationof a cash register or computer.

Major/Essential Functions

THIS IS A PRN POSITION to cover for staff when they are out

• Greet customers, answer basic questions, check the computersystem for prescription readiness/ status and direct medical andinsurance inquires to the pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
• Operate the point-of-sale cash register, handle cash and creditcard payments, and issue accurate change and receipts.
• Locate and pull filled prescription bags and verify basicpatient identifying information such as name and date ofbirth.
• Answer phone calls and triage non-professional inquires andenter basic patient demographic data while protecting patientprivacy under HIPAA guidelines.
• Keep checkout counter clean and assist with general pharmacyduties.

Occasional Duties

• Balance Cash drawer. Tallying the money in the register at theend of a shift. Reconciling transactions receipts and balance toensure accuracy.
• Call Patients to notify them of their prescriptions being readyfor pick up.

Required Qualifications

Completion of high school or the equivalent plus one yearexperience, preferably in the receipt and disbursement offunds.

• High school diploma.
• 1 year customer service experience, with receipt anddisbursement of funds. Must be able to balance a cash drawer.
