Job Description

Position Summary

This role involves operating the cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customers' purchases, receive payments, and assist in bagging purchases while providing courteous customer service.

Responsibilities

1. Operate cash register and electronic scanner to process customer purchases, handling various products including dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, and pork.
2. Process financial transactions accurately, including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons, in accordance with company policies.
3. Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases.
4. Understand and efficiently operate check-stand equipment such as registers, scanners, scales, and belts.
5. Perform front-end duties like merchandising check-stand items (newspapers, periodicals, candy, etc.).
6. Ensure correct use of product identification and PLUs; report pricing or signage errors.
7. Maintain current knowledge of store programs and product locations.
8. Communicate store programs, in-store specials, and coupons to customers, modeling high standards of service.
9. Follow policies on security, cash handling, product handling, and sale of alcohol and tobacco.
10. Keep the department clean, well-stocked, and compliant with safety and sanitation standards.
11. Assist with stocking as needed.
12. Follow all PPE, safety, food safety, and cleaning guidelines.
13. Adhere to guest experience standards.
14. Perform tasks in other departments as needed based on customer service requirements.
15. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (preferred)
• One year of retail or related experience (preferred)
• Effective verbal communication skills
• Strong customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must stand and walk for extended periods, with frequent bending, stooping, twisting. The environment includes varied temperatures and outside weather conditions, with low to moderate noise levels. Travel may be required.
