Job summary

Unified Disposal Partners is seeking a detail-oriented Cash Application Specialist to join our Finance team in Roseland, NJ on-site. You will ensure accurate and timely application of customer payments and support cash management alongside a collaborative finance department.

The role requires 2+ years in cash application or AR, solid accounting knowledge, and strong Excel/ERP proficiency. You will interact with multiple internal teams to maintain accurate records and drive process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Post and process daily cash receipts (checks, ACH, wires, EFT, card).
• Apply payments to accounts and invoices promptly.
• Research unapplied or misapplied payments.
• Investigate credit card disputes and discrepancies.
• Reconcile bank deposits and GL transactions.
• Resolve short/overpayments and variances.
• Collaborate with Billing, Collections, CS to resolve issues.
• Maintain documentation of payment activity and reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end/year-end close and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies.
• Support process improvements in cash application.

Cash Application Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Cash Application Specialist to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely application of customer payments, maintenance of accounts receivable records, and support of the company's overall cash management process.

The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently manage high-volume transactions in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining positive customer relationships, and supporting healthy cash flow operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Post and process daily cash receipts, including checks, ACH payments, wire transfers, EFT payments, and credit card transactions.
• Accurately apply customer payments to accounts and invoices in a timely manner.
• Research and resolve unapplied, misapplied, or unidentified payments.
• Investigate and process credit card disputes, chargebacks, and payment discrepancies.
• Reconcile bank deposits, cash postings, and accounts receivable transactions to the general ledger.
• Review and resolve short payments, overpayments, deductions, and account variances.
• Partner with Billing, Collections, Customer Service, and other internal departments to resolve customer account issues.
• Maintain detailed documentation of payment activity, adjustments, and account reconciliations.
• Process customer refunds, credits, and account adjustments as needed.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and company procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cash application processes and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in Cash Application, Accounts Receivable, or a related accounting role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
• Experience with accounting software and ERP systems, including QuickBooks Enterprise or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage large transaction volumes while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Experience in the waste disposal, environmental services, or related industry is a plus.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
