Job summary

Porter Pipe & Supply in Addison, IL is seeking a detail‑oriented Cash Application Specialist to join our Finance team. You will accurately apply customer payments, research unapplied cash, and reconcile discrepancies to ensure precise financial records.

The role reports to the Accounts Receivable Manager and requires at least one year of cash application or AR experience, strong Excel skills, and a high degree of accuracy and integrity in handling confidential information.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or related role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately process and apply customer payments to the correct accounts and invoices.
• Process and record credit card payments accurately and timely.
• Review daily payment activity including ACH, wire transfers, checks, and electronic payments.
• Research and resolve unapplied cash, payment discrepancies, and unidentified transactions.
• Reconcile payment records against bank deposits, remittance details, and AR balances.
• Review remittance information to ensure postings are accurate and timely.
• Identify short/overpayments and posting errors.
• Assist with researching Billtrust errors and integration, ensuring accurate posting.
• Maintain records of cash applications and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with AR, Collections, and Accounting to resolve payment issues.

What You’ll Bring:

• At least one year of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or a related role.

What You’ll Do:

• Accurately process and apply customer payments to the appropriate accounts and invoices.
• Process and record credit card payments accurately and timely.
• Review daily payment activity, including ACH, wire transfers, checks, and electronic payments.
• Research and resolve unapplied cash, payment discrepancies, and unidentified transactions.
• Reconcile payment records against bank deposits, remittance details, and accounts receivable balances.
• Review remittance information to ensure payments are posted accurately and timely.
• Identify short payments, overpayments, duplicate payments, and other posting errors.
• Assist with researching and resolving Billtrust errors to ensure accurate payment processing and cash application.
• Assist with Billtrust integration and payment data transfers into the ERP system, troubleshooting errors and ensuring accurate transaction posting.
• Maintain accurate records of cash applications and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with internal departments, including Accounts Receivable, Collections, and Accounting, to resolve payment issues.
• Monitor unapplied cash balances and assist with clearing outstanding items in a timely manner.
• Follow established financial procedures, internal controls, and confidentiality requirements.
• Meet daily processing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and productivity.
• Identify opportunities to improve cash application processes and operational efficiency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
