Job summary

Center For Family Services in Williamstown, NJ is seeking a Recovery Specialist to provide on-site, non-clinical recovery support for individuals affected by opioid overdose and substance use disorder. The role emphasizes collaborative care planning and connecting clients to treatment and community resources.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • New Jersey Peer Recovery Specialist Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the individual, develop a Recovery Plan with goals and measurable objectives.
  • Identify barriers and monitor progress toward goals.
  • Educate individuals on navigating treatment, social services and recovery supports.
  • Provide recovery support based on individual needs and preferences.
  • Support individuals through stages of change to maintain recovery.
  • Assist access to recovery services in the community.
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager to support engagement up to one year if needed.
  • Be a positive role model by sharing experiences, hope, and skills.
  • Maintain relationships to aid treatment engagement and retention.
  • Reinforce recovery as possible, built on strengths and resources.
  • Assist STAR participants in gaining skills and resources for recovery.
  • Support a recovery-supportive social and physical environment.
  • Enhance involvement with the recovery community.
  • Advocate for effective community treatment and recovery.
  • Encourage self-directed recovery choices.
  • Provide face-to-face and/or telephone support as chosen by individuals.
  • Maintain follow-up one year after starting the STAR program.
  • Help individuals maintain healthy community, family and social functioning.

Position Summary

The Recovery Specialists shall be responsible for providing on-site coverage at county-based Emergency Departments, engaging with, and providing non-clinical assistance and recovery supports for individuals reversed from an opioid overdose and individuals with Substance Use Disorder. The role of the Recovery Specialists includes but is not limited to the following:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the individual, develop a Recovery Plan which should include culturally competent and relevant services that identifies goals with measurable objectives, assesses strengths, can be used to work towards those goals
  • Identifies barriers that can inhibit goal attainment, and monitors the progress made attaining those goals
  • Educate the individuals on how to appropriately navigate treatment, social service and recovery support systems
  • Provide recovery support services based on the individual’s preference and his/her needs
  • Support individuals as they move through the stages of change to encourage them in their recovery
  • Assist individuals with accessing recovery support services in the community
  • Work collaboratively with the Case Manager to ensure the individual engages in services up to one year if needed
  • Be a positive role model by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills
  • Maintain relationships with the individual in order to assist him/her in the treatment engagement and retention process
  • Reinforce, guide, and ensure the individual that recovery is possible, and is built on multiple strengths, coping abilities, and the resources of each individual
  • Assist the individual participating in STAR with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery
  • Assist in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery
  • Enhance identification and participation in the recovery community
  • Advocate for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery
  • Empower individuals to make self‑determined and self‑directed choices about their recovery pathway
  • Provide support with face‑to‑face sessions and/or telephone support based on individual’s personal choice
  • Maintain follow‑up one year after starting STAR program
  • Help individuals maintain healthy community, family and social functioning
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency required, Associate’s degree and New Jersey Peer Recovery Specialist Certification preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the guiding principles of recovery that assist individuals to improve their health and wellness and live a self‑directed life. 3 years preferred
  • A general understanding of the multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using email as a tool for communication.
  • Excellent driving skills and current driver’s license with a driving record of at least three years
  • Vehicle with current insurance and registration
