Job summary

Brockton Public Schools is seeking a Carpentry Program Classroom Assistant to support the high school carpentry program. This role assists teachers with daily setup, materials, and safety, helping students develop basic carpentry skills in a supervised shop environment.

The ideal candidate has basic carpentry experience, OSHA certification, and strong organizational and communication skills. The position is full‑time, on site, with hourly pay and a focus on safe, engaging instruction.

Qualifications

  • OSHA certification required.
  • Experience in basic carpentry, construction, woodworking, or a related trade.
  • Knowledge of general workplace and construction safety practices.
  • Knowledge of basic power tool operation and safe use of hand tools.
  • Ability to assist students with basic carpentry skills and techniques under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and other members of the school community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist with a variety of classroom and program needs.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a carpentry classroom team.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, patience, initiative, and a positive attitude when working with students.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, shop, and work environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and established safety procedures and reinforce those procedures with students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist carpentry classroom teachers with daily classroom and shop setup and breakdown.
  • Ensure students have the appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for classroom activities.
  • Assist teachers in preparing and organizing materials for student projects and hands‑on activities.
  • Assist with the safe operation, organization, and storage of tools and equipment.
  • Reinforce proper safety procedures and safe work practices in the carpentry classroom and shop.
  • Assist teachers in monitoring the classroom and shop environment to help ensure student safety.
  • Support students as they develop and practice basic carpentry, woodworking, and construction skills under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist with preparing, measuring, cutting, organizing, and breaking down materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Help maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist with monitoring inventory and notifying teachers of needed supplies, materials, or equipment.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized work environment, including cleanup of work areas and proper storage or disposal of materials.
  • Assist teachers with preparing the classroom and shop for demonstrations, projects, and other instructional activities.
  • Work collaboratively with carpentry teachers to support student learning and successful completion of classroom projects.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and promote professionalism, responsibility, teamwork, and safe workplace behaviors.
  • Assist with other carpentry program activities and projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
