Job summary

Assisting Hands Home Care – Merrillville is seeking dependable caregivers to provide non-medical, one-on-one care to seniors and adults in Chesterton and nearby communities, including Porter, Portage, and Valparaiso.

Your role includes helping with personal care, daily routines, and supporting clients’ comfort, dignity, and independence at home. Training and ongoing development are provided, with flexible part-time and PRN shifts and biweekly pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• TB documentation and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
• Pass a national background screening.
• Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling, communication, and documentation.
• Dependable attendance and professional, caring approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene.
• Support safe transfers, mobility and daily routines per the care plan.
• Provide companionship and assist with meals, light housekeeping, and laundry.
• Give medication reminders; no medication administration.
• Observe changes and report to supervisor, clock in/out via app, and follow care plans.

Responsibilities

Depending on each client’s care plan, you may:

• Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene
• Help with safe transfers, walking, and mobility according to the care plan and your training
• Provide companionship, conversation, and support with daily routines
• Prepare meals and assist with light housekeeping and laundry
• Provide medication reminders; this position does not include medication administration
• Observe and report changes in client condition, behavior, or safety
• Use our mobile app to clock in and out and complete required care documentation
• Follow client care plans, infection prevention practices, safety procedures, and agency policies
• Maintain client confidentiality and treat clients and their families with respect

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Two years of caregiving experience preferred, including home care, assisted living, or facility experience
• Reliable transportation to assigned shifts
• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
• Ability to complete and pass a national background screening
• Current TB documentation and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain them before hire
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling, communication, and documentation
• Dependable attendance, clear communication, and a professional, caring approach

Schedule and Work Location

This is an hourly, non-exempt position providing care in clients’ homes in Chesterton and nearby communities. Available shifts and hours depend on current client needs, your qualifications, and your availability.
