Job summary

Assisting Hands Home Care Merrillville is seeking caregivers, HHAs, CNAs, PCAs, DSPs, and other home care aides to provide non-medical in-home care in Crown Point, IN and surrounding Lake and Porter County communities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years caregiving experience preferred (Caregiver, HHA, CNA, PCA, DSP, or similar).
• Reliable transportation with valid driver's license and auto insurance.
• Pass a national background check; CPR certification and TB test (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, ambulation, and transfers.
• Provide companionship and emotional support.
• Perform light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, and home organization.
• Assist with mobility using walkers, gait belts, or wheelchairs.
• Provide non-medical medication reminders.
• Monitor client condition and report changes to the office.
• Use mobile apps for scheduling, clock-in/clock-out, and care documentation.
• Follow infection control, safety protocols, and agency policies.
• Maintain client confidentiality and professionalism.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating
  
  
• Support safe walking, transfers, and mobility according to each client’s care plan and your training
  
  
• Assist clients who use walkers, wheelchairs, or other prescribed mobility equipment
  
  
• Provide companionship, conversation, and support with daily routines
  
  
• Prepare meals and assist with light housekeeping, laundry, and home organization
  
  
• Provide medication reminders; this role does not include medication administration
  
  
• Observe and report changes in client condition, behavior, or safety
  
  
• Use our mobile app for scheduling, clocking in and out, and documenting care
  
  
• Follow agency safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and confidentiality policies
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
  
  
• Two years of caregiving experience preferred
  
  
• Relevant backgrounds may include caregiver, Home Health Aide (HHA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Personal Care Aide (PCA), or Direct Support Professional (DSP)
  
  
• Reliable transportation to assigned shifts, a valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
  
  
• Ability to pass a national background check
  
  
• Current CPR certification and TB test, or willingness to obtain them before hire
  
  
• Dependable attendance, patience, professionalism, and clear communication
  
  
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling, care documentation, and communication
  
  

Schedule and Work Location

This is an hourly, non-exempt position providing care in clients’ homes in East Chicago and nearby Lake County communities. Assignments and hours depend on client needs, your experience, and your availability.
