Job summary

Assisting Hands Home Care – Merrillville is seeking dependable caregivers to provide non-medical, one-on-one in-home care to seniors in Hammond and nearby communities. We offer flexible scheduling, ongoing training, and strong local office support to help you succeed in a compassionate, professional role.

As part of our team, you will assist with personal care, mobility support, companionship, meal prep, and light housekeeping, while maintaining client dignity and safety at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of paid caregiving experience in a home care setting or similar role.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance.
• Current CPR certification and TB test required before a client assignment.
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling, communication, and documentation.
• Dependable attendance, clear communication, and a compassionate, professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and other personal care needs.
• Support safe walking and transfers according to the care plan and training.
• Assist clients with walkers, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment.
• Provide companionship, conversation, and social engagement.
• Prepare meals and help with light housekeeping, laundry, and organization.
• Offer medication reminders; this role does not include medication administration.
• Observe and report changes in client condition, appearance, or behavior.
• Use our mobile app to clock in and out, communicate with the office, and document care.
• Follow infection prevention practices, safety procedures, and agency policies.
• Maintain client dignity, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
