Job summary

Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) seeks a Career Services Advisor to support students in securing externships and employment within the culinary industry.

You will build employer partnerships, provide career coaching, and manage placement records to help graduates succeed in a competitive job market. Flexibility for some evenings and weekends is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience in career services or HR ideal.
  • 1–3 years related work experience in food service/hospitality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; CampusVue a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work some evenings and weekends.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Career Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is seeking a Career Services Advisor to join our Career Services team and provide exceptional support to our students. ICE is one of America’s leading centers for culinary education and the largest culinary school in New York City and Los Angeles. We are passionate about helping students of all ages and backgrounds pursue their culinary career dreams. We’re looking for a Career Services Advisor who is enthusiastic about the world of food and excited to contribute to our growing organization.

Success in this role requires a genuine desire to assist others. At ICE, our Career Services Advisors are dedicated to guiding students through their career journey, from securing externships to finding permanent employment. This role is vital in helping students navigate the challenges of entering the culinary industry.

The Career Services Advisor is an essential member of our Career Services team and reports directly to the Assistant Director of Career Services. We support and reward creativity, performance, professional development, and team involvement. We also have fun, and eat well, in the process!

Requirements

KEY Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage career services advisement for assigned students.
  • Provide coaching and advisement for career students; assist with sourcing employment opportunities, externships, and permanent placements.
  • Maintain current relationships with and establish new employer partnerships.
  • Manage and maintain accurate placement records as required by ACCSC accreditation standards.
  • Follow up with graduates after placement to confirm and document employment status; provide general career advisement and assistance for alumni.
  • Monitor and assist in managing externship attrition.
  • Support overall campus graduation rate goals.
  • Maintain updated alumni employment and contact information.
  • Conduct and facilitate career workshops, presentations, etc.
  • Work closely with the Office of Student Affairs and Registrar; keep abreast of assigned students' activities and performance.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of career fairs.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of career development seminars and alumni programming.
  • Contribute weekly job opportunities and articles to the career services weekly e-newsletter.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all students, alumni, and employer partners.
  • Maintain administrative tracking of externship documentation, employment documentation, and student files and records.
  • Perform general administrative support for the Career Services Department (i.e. calls, department line, documentation of student engagement, etc.)
  • Review resumes and cover letters, and provide interviewing preparation guidance.
  • Conduct site visits to externship locations as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree a plus, experience in career services or human resources fields ideal.
  • Minimum of (1-3) years related work experience in the food service and hospitality industries.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, Powerpoint, Word and Excel; experience with CampusVue software a plus.
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required.
  • Must have the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • A familiarity with and appreciation for the Institute of Culinary Education and its programs.

PAY: 25.00 - $29.33

The position is full-time and requires flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts,
according to department rotation, which is set in advance.
