Job summary

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey is hiring a Career Navigator (Case Manager) in New York. You will help clients develop employment plans, document progress, and coordinate with partners to place individuals into jobs.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required with 1–2 years in career navigation or case management.
  • Experience with public assistance, substance use, homelessness, or mental health is preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport and empower clients.
  • Understand needs of economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Employment and Individual Service Plan and record in SEAMS timely.
  • Develop long- and short-term goals aligned with client history and assessments.
  • Prepare case notes and assessments within required timeframes.
  • Provide follow-up counseling and referrals to services.
  • Monitor client engagement and adjust life plans to reach goals.
  • Coordinate with Employer Engagement Specialist to drive job matching.
  • Review resumes and tailor job matching process.
  • Offer resume guidance and document preparation for employment.
  • Record intake, assessment, referrals in systems.
  • Ensure excellent customer service to job seekers.
  • Connect clients to public benefits to reduce barriers.
  • Conduct safety/crisis risk assessments and escalate when needed.

Position: Career Navigator (Case Manager)

Reports To:

FLSA Status: Salary – Non-Exempt

The Awesome Things You’ll Do
  • Complete clients Employment and Individual Service Plan. Ensuring they are recorded in SEAMS timely.
  • Develops long and short term goals consistent with the clients’s interests, previous work histories, education and assessment results.
  • Completes case notes and assessments adhering to time frames set by Goodwill Industries.
  • Provides follow-up counseling and guidance services to address barriers to employment and make appropriate referrals to vendor services, agencies, and HRA representatives as required to help overcome these barriers and better prepare clients for employment opportunities.
  • Monitors and tracks client engagement and participation activities to ensure client meets weekly and monthly goals and adjust life plans when required.
  • Coordinate closely with the Employer Engagement Specialist to drive assessment and matching to available positions
  • Reviews resume and other skills assessment to tailor job matching process
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to develop and edit resume and other documentation related to employment placement as needed
  • Track all intake, assessment, referral and relevant data in funder and internal systems
  • Ensures at all job seekers receive excellent customer service
  • Connect clients to relevant public benefits as part of barrier reduction.
  • Conduct safety/crisis risk assessment and elevate to the Social Worker or appropriate staff when needed.
Our Must Haves
  • B.A. or B.S. degree required along with at least one to two years’ experience providing career navigation, case management, vocational counseling, or employment services.
  • Prior experience preferred in working with individuals receiving public assistance or those who are experiencing or have experienced substance abuse, homelessness, mental health issues, or have been involved with the justice system.
  • Ability to establish rapport, build trust, empower, and provide occupational guidance to youth.
  • An understanding of the special needs of an economically and socially disadvantaged population.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations
  • Record-keeping, case noting, HIPAA compliance, and maintaining confidentiality
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including active and reflective listening, motivational interviewing, authentic communication, and conflict resolution
  • Highly effective problem-solving and follow up skills
  • Ability to focus deadlines and details
  • Bilingual A plus
