Job summary

Albany State University seeks Peer Career Mentors for the Velma Fudge Honors Program to coach peers on career readiness. You will assist with resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, and career exploration using the Focus2Career, Handshake, and Steppingblocks platforms.

Mentors gain leadership and professional communication experience, while supporting first-year honors students on career assessments and pathway planning.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled, degree-seeking Albany State University undergraduate in good academic and conduct standing.
• Sophomore, junior, or senior classification.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, maintained throughout employment.
• Full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours) each semester of employment.
• Completed resume reviewed by Career Services and a completed Handshake profile before the start date.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to give feedback respectfully.
• Ability to keep student information confidential consistent with FERPA.

Responsibilities

• Resume and application support (approximately 35%). Review and give feedback on peers' resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and LinkedIn profiles; help tailor materials to internships, scholarships, graduate programs, and jobs; refer complex cases to Career Services.
• Mock interviews and professional skills (approximately 25%). Conduct mock interviews, coach on professional communication and elevator pitch, assist with workshops led by Career Services or facilitators.
• Career exploration and planning (approximately 25%). Guide first-year Honors students through Focus2Career assessments and help draft career pathway plans; help peers with Handshake profiles and salary outcomes in Steppingblocks.
• Outreach, records, and program support (approximately 15%). Promote events, record mentoring contacts, collect participation data, attend trainings, and support related duties.
