Description of Work
The Career Coach will serve undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences to increase their understanding of and preparation for quality post‑graduation opportunities. Primarily, the Career Coach will facilitate students’ self‑exploration of interests, abilities, and values as well as their understanding of career options related to their academic programs, with special consideration of the unique needs of different populations, especially historically underserved first‑generation, low‑income, and ethnic minority students. Additionally, the Career Coach will emphasize the importance of experiential learning opportunities that will contribute to students’ readiness to successfully pursue those career options. Collaboration with advisors and faculty across the College as well as with UNL Career Services will help inform and guide this work. Through direct interaction with students in 1-1 coaching sessions, classroom and student organization presentations, and teaching of an elective career development/experiential learning course, the Career Coach will help students develop the ability to articulate their skills and qualifications in their resumes, cover letters and interviews as well as through networking activities both in‑person and online. The Career Coach will also build and maintain relationships with employers and alumni.
