  • Experience with public speaking.

  • Strong organization, time management, and both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and self-manage.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 1-1 coaching sessions with undergraduate students.
  • Deliver classroom and student organization presentations.
  • Teach an elective career development/experiential learning course.
  • Help students articulate skills in resumes, cover letters, and interviews; assist with networking.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers and alumni; collaborate with advisors, faculty, and Career Services.

Description of Work

The Career Coach will serve undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences to increase their understanding of and preparation for quality post‑graduation opportunities. Primarily, the Career Coach will facilitate students’ self‑exploration of interests, abilities, and values as well as their understanding of career options related to their academic programs, with special consideration of the unique needs of different populations, especially historically underserved first‑generation, low‑income, and ethnic minority students. Additionally, the Career Coach will emphasize the importance of experiential learning opportunities that will contribute to students’ readiness to successfully pursue those career options. Collaboration with advisors and faculty across the College as well as with UNL Career Services will help inform and guide this work. Through direct interaction with students in 1‑1 coaching sessions, classroom and student organization presentations, and teaching of an elective career development/experiential learning course, the Career Coach will help students develop the ability to articulate their skills and qualifications in their resumes, cover letters and interviews as well as through networking activities both in‑person and online. The Career Coach will also build and maintain relationships with employers and alumni.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of experience working with high school or college students in an educational support, counseling, social work, achievement, advising, or mentoring setting; OR two (2) years of experience in recruitment/talent acquisition/hiring, or training/development required, with evidence of 1:1 interaction. A relevant master’s degree may substitute for experience.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn and translate extensive career information, policies and procedures.
  • Must have demonstrated organization, time management, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to both collaborate and self-manage.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, student affairs, counseling, human resources, or related field. Background in liberal arts and sciences.
  • Academic and/or career advising experience and background in career services.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with a variety of groups including historically underserved first‑generation, low‑income, and ethnic minority populations.
  • Experience building relationships across multiple constituencies and managing projects.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in higher education setting.
