Career Advancement Coach
Job Summary
The David Eccles School of Business is seeking a part-time CareerAdvancement Coach to deliver, maintain, and further develop anexisting comprehensive and innovative Career Advancement program.The target audience is students in the three working professionalMBA programs (Executive MBA weekend, Professional MBA evening, andMBA Online), with an emphasis on the PMBA and MBAOpopulations. This role includes providing individualized career coaching andcollaborating with MBA teams to support professional development,career advancement, job searches, and entrepreneurship. The CareerAdvancement Coach will help students clarify career goals, identifyactionable next steps, navigate career transitions, and makeeffective use of available career resources andopportunities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of careercoaching and career paths, as well as extensive knowledge of theemployment market and corporate hiring practices. This individualwill also collaborate with the Employer Relations team to increaseemployment opportunities for students and to promote networking andrecruiting.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the full-time Career Advancement Manager tounderstand current processes, benchmarks, resources, programming,and the evolving needs of students.
- Proactively develop relationships with current PMBA andMBAOstudents to engage them in Career Advancement Services, provideindividualized career coaching, and support progress toward careergoals.
- Conduct one-on-one career coaching sessions to help studentsclarify career goals, identify next steps, navigate careertransitions, and develop actionable career advancement orjob-search strategies.
- Introduce coaching and support students in getting started,sharing key career benchmarks, resources, and individualizedguidance based on their goals and career stage.
- Coach students on career development topics including resumeand LinkedIn strategy, networking, interviewing, job-searchstrategy, career advancement, and professional positioning.
- Proactively communicate and engage with students to share thevalue of Career Advancement Services and career coaching throughvarious media, including webinars and presentations, Canvas programcourses, program brochures, student information emails, and othercommunication channels.
- Collaborate with MBA program teams and Employer Relationscolleagues to connect students with relevant career development,networking, and recruiting opportunities.
- Track student engagement and progress toward career goals andcontribute to program benchmarks, outcomes, and continuousimprovement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels:
Organizational Development Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Organizational Development Specialist, III: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
- 5 or more years of post-undergraduate work experience in careercoaching, corporate recruiting, or a related coaching role.
- Certified coach, or working toward a coaching certificationthrough the International Coaching Federation (ICF), Co-ActiveCoaching, Appreciative Advising, or a similar organization.
- Excels at relationship building, active listening, askingopen-ended questions, and providing individualized, forward-focusedfeedback.
- Demonstrated success coaching individuals through careerdecisions, transitions, advancement opportunities, and job-searchstrategies.
- Demonstrated success in prospect and client/student engagement,with strong results in motivating people to take action.
- Adaptable and respectful when working across a breadth ofgraduate student identities, ages, career levels, and lifeexperiences.
- Current and competent in resume editing and LinkedIn profileoptimization for recruiter screening.
- Understands how AI is impacting the hiring process andjob-search strategies.
- Experience providing effective mock interview feedback forearly- to mid-career professionals.
- Knowledgeable about Core Career Competencies.
- Experience with career and coaching assessment tools such asGallup StrengthsFinder, Career Leader, DISC, or similar tools.
- Certified in Gallup StrengthsFinder preferred.
- Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to largegroups.
- A client-oriented attitude, strong customer service ethic, andhigh expectations for quality.
- Values collaboration and understands the importance of systemsthinking and stakeholder engagement within an organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish andmaintain cooperative working relationships with students at allcareer levels, faculty, staff, and Eccles/Universitycolleagues.
- A warm and approachable personality with a highly developedsense of empathy and humor.
- Belief in and respect for the value of higher education.
- Approaches responsibilities proactively and independently, withexcellent time-management skills.
- Exhibits a growth mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced Zoom user.
- Experience working in higher education, preferably within abusiness school.
- Understands the drivers of college rankings data.
- A track record of measurable results.
- Past or present member of MBA CSEA, NACE, MPACE, NACADA, or asimilar professional organization.
- Familiarity with Canvas.
- Experience with Salesforce or 12Twenty is a plus.

Work Schedule Summary:
Able to work two evenings per weekand approximately two Saturdays per semester. A schedule will bedeveloped to align with both parties' needs, with occasionaladjustments to support student-facing events. This position isfully on-site and is not eligible for hybrid or remote workarrangements. As an essential campus role, the employee is requiredto work in person at the University of Utah to directly supportstudents, colleagues, departmental operations, events, and otherbusiness needs.
