Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• 2–3 years of experience in a related medical field with referrals processing (preferred)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Obtains authorizations from insurance for referrals to physicians/medical facilities.
• Schedules appointments for testing or physician visits.
• Verifies eligibility/coverage for referral/testing via phone/fax/Internet.
• Investigates billing problems and denials.
• Notifies patients of referral process and provides instructions.
• Performs data input of patient and insurance changes for billing system.
• Answers phones, schedules appointments and greets patients.
• Processes daily charge slips and reconciles totals.
• Posts payments and maintains patient accounts in the billing system.
• Works with physicians to resolve coding and information needs.
• Assists with referrals to DSS when appropriate.
