Care Coordinator - Auth & Scheduling Specialist, Surgical Scheduling

Job Summary

Assists patients and providers with coordinating referrals, obtaining authorizations, and scheduling. Responsible for understanding benefits coverage and ensuring patient care is coordinated effectively.

Essential Functions

1. Completes referrals for patients and coordinates with referring and receiving practices and/or departments.
2. Coordinates and prepares financial estimates for patients.
3. Obtains all necessary authorizations.
4. Directs patients to providers within their insurance plan.
5. Reviews benefits and educates patients on insurance coverage.
6. Coordinates and schedules surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, or other services with internal and ancillary providers.
7. Reviews and confirms schedules are accurate and properly allocated.
8. Follows up on all referrals to ensure no care gaps.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit for long periods and work in a fast-paced office environment. Ability to bend and lift up to 10 lbs. is required.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Computer experience required.
• Understanding of insurance coverage (FSC, coverage, plan types) and medical necessity policies preferred.
• Knowledge of medical records software preferred.
• Customer service experience required.
