Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for the Adult Electrophysiology (EP) unit. The APP will work with attending physicians to provide direct cardiology care, focusing on EP patients in pre/post-procedural areas.

Primary hours are four 10-hour shifts per week, totaling 40 hours; hours may vary by service needs and may be adjusted by Heart Center Leadership.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited graduate-level Acute Care NP program.
• Graduation from an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NP or PA licensure in North Carolina.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• At least one year of cardiology/electrophysiology experience preferred; new graduates will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate cardiovascular patients in pre-procedural, post-procedural, and perioperative phases; diagnose, treat, and manage conditions.
• Document histories and exams; prepare workups, progress notes, and treatment plans.
• Order and schedule lab tests and diagnostic procedures; explain procedures to patients.
• Obtain informed consent and discharge procedural patients as directed by the attending physician.
• Assess clinical status and initiate interventions; prepare for transfer to ED, OR, or inpatient settings as needed.
• Collaborate with EP Lab staff and interdisciplinary teams to allocate workload.
• Perform or assist with approved procedures after competency validation.
• Administer and manage infused therapies and medications within scope of practice.
• Participate in education, quality improvement, and research activities.
