Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Des Moines, IA, seeks an experienced perioperative nurse to provide intraoperative care in scrub and circulating roles. The position serves patients from neonate to geriatric and requires on-call, weekends, nights and holidays as scheduled on a day shift.

The nurse prepares for cases, assures aseptic technique, monitors equipment, documents surgical data, and communicates with the OR team and families.

Qualifications

• Current Iowa RN license or compact license.
• Operating room experience preferred.
• BLS certification required within 6 weeks of hire.
• Must read, write and speak English fluently.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction.
• Prepares for surgical cases and anticipates needs of patient and OR team members.
• Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by aseptic technique and equipment management.
• Collects data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis.
• Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, and families.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup and function and turnover.
